I requested a referral from the GP after noticing a decline in my mum’s memory. She was okay about going, but had forgotten about the appointment, and it was playing on her mind the months before the appointment. During the long assessment, I started to notice differences in her answers—even with simple details like her date of birth. The nurse was fantastic, and the service during the appointment was very good.
However, there were issues with communication. The first appointment letter was sent to my mum’s address, and we never actually saw it. It should also have been sent to me as her next of kin. Because of this, mum missed the appointment, and we weren’t contacted afterwards. As a result, she had to be re-referred, which delayed her care significantly.
"The nurse was fantastic"
