"Concerns during pregnancy"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I’m currently 31 weeks into my first pregnancy and I’ve been stressing and worrying about every little thing.

I called in the early hours about concerns of my baby not moving for a good few hours. I was pretty much refused to be seen to make sure everything is okay because I have a cold.

As my first time being pregnant, I don’t know what to think of this as I thought the hospital's job was to look after people and help people whenever, but instead I was told to take a drink of water and lie down.

I felt like I wasn’t important to them or that my baby wasn’t important to them because I have a cold. I can’t really help that I have a cold and I can’t control when my baby moves around.

Dear fornaxxw48,

I am sorry to hear that your experience of contacting maternity assessment did not meet your expectations and left you feeling you weren't important. This is not the standard of care we expect to be delivered.

If you have not seen a midwife since this or still have concerns about your baby's movements please contact your midwife to be seen and have both yours and your baby's wellbeing assessed.

I hope this is an isolated incident and your experience going forward is positive and in line with our expected levels of care provision.

Best wishes

Leanne
