"Recent hospital visit"

About: Fairfield General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I recently attended the hospital due to worsening chest pain and growing concern about my symptoms. During my visit, a nurse named Katie carried out my ECG and took my bloods, and I would like to provide feedback on the outstanding care she gave.

While speaking with Katie, I explained that I believed my symptoms were likely linked to stress and anxiety, rather than any real health concern. My partner and I are currently going through a difficult period, it would have been my son’s third birthday on the 23rd of November, and we are approaching the 3rd anniversary of his passing at 10 days old on the 3rd of December. We are also expecting another baby, a girl, and this has understandably brought up a lot of emotions. Talking about all of this made me very upset.

Katie was exceptional. She was not only reassuring regarding our current pregnancy, but also incredibly compassionate and sensitive to our loss. She spoke to me with empathy, patience, and respect, and made me feel heard and understood at a moment when I felt overwhelmed and alone. Her level of understanding was so instinctive and natural, she seemed to know exactly what I needed to hear and how to say it.

Although I had further time to spend in hospital, I felt unexpectedly calmer and relieved after speaking with her. The kindness, professionalism, and humanity she showed had a genuine and meaningful impact upon me, so much so that I am now considering Katie as the name I propose for our baby girl.

I wanted to ensure that Katie receives recognition for her exemplary level of care. Her support made a very difficult day much more bearable, and I am truly grateful.
