"Absolutely five star treatment"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as the patient),

Had to go for a colonoscopy following blood showing up in poo sample after 62nd birthday.

Procedure carried out at RVH and was nervous prior to going.

I needn’t have worried, on arrival I was first spoken to by Heather who walked me through the process awaiting, checked medical history, answered my queries and generally put me at ease.

Next I met Dr Patterson who was carrying out the procedure. He also talked me through the process and answered questions, he was also very reassuring and I went out the procedure room feeling a lot more relaxed than when I had entered the hospital.

Three nurses were also present, nurses Abigail, Anna and Mercy. They all introduced themselves and were a reassuring presence during about the 40mins the procedure took. I was awake throughout and I was communicated with by both the Doctor and nurses and continually updated.

Some polyps were removed and I was was told of any possible follow up action required.

I was then taken to a recovery room where I was looked after by other nurses who also treated me with kindness and sensitivity whilst I recovered.

I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the way I was treated during the whole process from start to finish. Absolutely five star treatment. Thankyou all.

Good evening Jonniboy1,

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to leave us such lovely feedback about your recent trip to RVH Endo. I am so glad you had a positive experience and that we were able to put your mind at ease. The team try their very best to treat everyone with dignity and respect so I'm glad that came across.

Coming to hospital can be an anxious time so I'm glad we were able to reassure you and give you the support you needed. Hopefully others reading this will see that the home 'poo screening' is a very worthwhile service and if anyone is in doubt as to whether they should do it, then I hope this shows them they will supported the whole way through, should they need it.

I will make sure I pass your thanks on to the whole team, especially Dr Patterson and those nurses mentioned in your email. We are very blessed with the team we have at the minute. I hope we are together for a long time to keep our great service going.

Can I wish you all the best for the future. If your polyps mean you have to come back for surveillance then I will keep our skinniest scope for you and look forward to seeing you in the future. I hope it will be a little less daunting the next time but we'll welcome you and support you just the same.

Kind regards

Heather
