Prior to, and following surgery for a Lower Anterior Resection, I was admitted into the Apple Clinic to begin rehabilitation. I was mobile, but truthfully I wasn't in a good way at the time, fitness wise, psychologically and physically.
However the staff Amy, Maggie, Gerry & Matthew were all very compassionate and understanding. Between us, we knew I had my limits and they did their best to encourage me just to push myself that little bit further with each visit to the clinic, but not too much. I will not lie, it is difficult, but having now come through the other side, I can tell you that it does work.
I'm much more able bodied, more or less fully independent and back at work again. The physio exercises really do help and work in the long term. It just takes time and if you stick with it you will start to feel better and become stronger as the weeks roll on.
I can't thank Amy, Maggie, Gerry and Matthew enough for all the care they have demonstrated, and encouragement to get me to push myself just enough that was comfortable within my own limits during the recovery.
They are a fantastic team and made the weekly visit to the clinic extremely enjoyable with their fabulous personalities. We had such a great laugh at times and it really helped ease not just myself, but other class members. So much so, that I was quite sad when my program came to an end. But space has to be made for other patients just as it should be, and I will see them again as I have another surgery to go through at some point in the future.
Thank you guys. You will be missed, but I'll try and continue to build on what you have helped me achieve up to this point!
"They are a fantastic team"
