"I felt like a pawn in a chess game"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Acute/Medical Receiving Unit (50,51,53) Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Respiratory Medicine (Wards 2, 6,7 10 & 16)

(as the patient),

Second time happening. I have been taken out of a bed in a receiving ward (ward 50), transferred to another ward (ward 2) on a hospital (hard/uncomfortable) wheelchair, and upon arrival at the ward been greeted by a nurse with a “surprised” look of didn’t know we were receiving anybody and we have no beds available! So I was ceremoniously dumped in middle of ward, with no access to a table, charging point for phone or anything. I asked how long till a bed free, answer was no idea.

Due to this being second time this has happened, I left the ward as I can’t take how undignified, uncared for, unrespected I felt. If I’m not mistaken these are core NHS values. I felt like a pawn in a chess game and I mean seriously. My experience of the management and the flow system for patients is that it is utterly disgusting and disrespectful to patients. I’ve came home still unwell, but frankly I don’t care as it’s better to stay in my bed rather than in middle of the floor in a chair. I will never come back into this system again. I also was privy to a conversation by a staff member and how they spoke about patients was disgusting. We are people, some vulnerable, and we are not numbers/statistics!
