My aunt - who is in her 90s - was in this ward recently. She has mobility issues so needs help in and out of bed and going to the toilet. She has been left in her chair for hours at a time getting really cold. She has wet herself more than once as no one responded to the buzzer.
When my other aunt visited and went looking for help, she was told by a nurse - well, we need to get a break too, you know. The level of care and attention in this ward has been poor, and this is shocking considering it is an Acute Medical Unit.
In contrast, her treatment in A&E was exemplary even though the place was extremely busy.
I am glad she is no longer in AMU 41 and that she had many visitors to advocate for her. I feel for those patients with no family to stand up for them, as I don't feel they will be cared for properly here.
"Poor care and attention"
