I attended Ninewells hospital on Friday 22 November 2025 to have a basil cell carcinoma removed from my nose. This was totally removed following two procedures. However, due to the size and depth of the lesion this resulted in a 'division of flap surgery' procedure being undertaken.
I have to record that Dr Affleck and his whole team were extremely professional and caring during my visit. The whole procedure was explained in great detail including all options in 'layman's' terms. Plenty of time was also given for any question I had.My wife who also attended was extremely well looked after.
During the 3 procedures I found that my treatment was being administered by a very organised and very close team. There teams 'banter' during the operations was very relaxing and reassuring to me. Not only that, my knowledge of medical TV dramas has been greatly improved :)
My only concern was with the actual unit building:- Patients are greeted into the waiting area with water dripping from the roof but, much more importantly, there was no heating in the unit (an issue which many nursing staff suggested was not an unusual situation which, apparently, had been reported to the appropriate authorities, this cannot be right that both patients and staff having to suffer in this way. It also reflects badly on the health board's estate management department.
Not withstanding this complaint, my overall opinion of my visit is one of great thanks to the whole team for making a very worrying experience as easy and relaxed as possible.
"A very organised and very close team"
