I called Breathing Space and spoke to call handler George whom I've spoken to on several occasions before - and who knows - remembers information I've given him previously which I appreciate and admire.
Having that ability to connect with someone I speak to makes a huge difference, especially as I'm neurodivergent - on the spectrum.
Being able to chat over how things have been going and being guided by the gentle questioning helps me feel more able to open up and discuss my feelings.
For those who have never used - or called "Breathing Space", I cannot recommend them more highly. Especially as I said my conversations with George who I know the voice of and who is so down to earth and compassionate in his manner.
When I hear him telling me his name after which I feel more able to give mine, I'm almost immediately put at ease knowing who he is from the recognition of his voice.
This is also why I prefer "Breathing Space" to other helplines who from my experience have the penultimate question on if you're feeling suicidal......which puts me off, as I don't always feel that bad.
In fact more often its the deep sense of loneliness due to having no social circle, close friends, work colleagues or close family members to meet, talk to, go out with or feel supported by.
So, in some respects "Breathing Space" has been more of an extension to, and more supportive than my family than anything else.
Thank you again George and those at "Breathing Space", I hope this is fed through to him..
"An extension to, and more supportive than, my family"
