"Helping bring our girl safely into the world"

About: Bassetlaw Hospital / Maternity care Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Maternity care

(as a service user),

We just want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to Midwife Lynn, Receptionist Tracey, Consultant Roselyn, and the amazing rainbow midwives Kirsty and Rhian from the antenatal team.

Late October we welcomed our beautiful rainbow baby. This pregnancy was high-risk and honestly one of the hardest things we’ve ever been through. It wasn’t just the appointments or the medical side of things… it was the constant worry, the sleepless nights, the fear of the unknown, and trying to act calm when inside we were terrified.

These ladies made such a difference. Whether it was a reassuring smile, a listening ear, encouraging us to use the quiet room when the anxiety got too much, or looking into induction options — they were always there. And they didn’t just care for me; they cared for family too. They saw us as a whole family, and that meant more than they’ll ever know.

A special thank you to Lynn, who is one of the most incredible people we’ve ever met. She gave me weekly, open-ended appointments so I had somewhere safe to go - to hear our daughters heartbeat, ask questions, or just get reassurance when I needed it the most.

We also want to say a thank you to Vanessa at Bassetlaw, who delivered Norah safely and kept us calm during a moment we never thought we’d reach. We are so grateful for her calm and kind words.

It was also so lovely for our daughter to meet the team in person, as pictured — a moment we’ll cherish.

Going through a high-risk pregnancy has taught us strength we didn’t know we had and to appreciate every small milestone. To anyone else going through the same — you’re not alone, and you’re braver than you think.

Thank you to our little “hospital village” for helping bring our girl safely into the world. We are forever grateful.

With love ❤️

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with us, and many congratulations on the safe arrival of your beautiful rainbow baby. I am truly grateful that you felt able to describe your journey, especially given how emotionally challenging and uncertain a high-risk pregnancy can be.

I am delighted to hear how well supported you felt by our colleagues. The compassion, reassurance and person-centred care you describe is exactly what our teams strive to provide, and your words will mean a great deal to them. I will make sure your feedback is passed on.

All the best,

Dionne
