Last December I had a COPD flare-up, was extremely breathless and husband called 999. Was told it would be a long wait but surprisingly a first responder arrived within about 30 minutes. By this time I had somewhat recovered and was given oxygen. The ambulance arrived and as my oxygen levels were low it was advised I went to ED but to take ourselves. We would have about 7 hours wait in ambulance if went with them.
It was New Years Eve and department was packed . I waited 29 hours before I was taken to a ward. Once there the care was excellent as usual and I was home after a couple of days.
The staff throughout my stay were marvellous though they were worked off their feet. No complaints.
