"Such a personal level of compassion and care"

About: Mary Aikenhead Centre

(as a relative),

After a long time in QE Glasgow (around 6-7 weeks) and after a long time at home becoming gradually less mobile and unwell my mum has been referred and admitted now to St Margaret's.  From day 1 the team there have been incredible(!) and in the las 3 or so weeks my mum has become calmer, has a very good palliative regime in place, is far more mobile and if being incredibly well looked after with such a personal level of compassion and care. (and hugs when needed which is lovely). I've finally been able to sleep well at night and the team keeps me updated and displays daily focus, care and compassion for my mums developing needs.

Good afternoon coachmacca,

Thank you so very kindly for taking the time to share your story about our Mary Aikenhead Centre here at St Margaret of Scotland Hospice. My name is Adrian Dawson, Clinical Systems Manager. On behalf of Sr Rita and the extended team, we are delighted to hear that your mum has become more calm and that she has a very good palliative care regime in place. St Margaret of Scotland Hospice prides itself on a full holistic approach to patient care. We appreciate that it is a difficult journey for patients and their families. We are therefore glad that you are able to sleep well at night knowing that mum is beautifully cared for.

We are eternally grateful for meeting patients like your mum. It is often felt she, and other patients, have an innate ability to bring out the best in ourselves. In this instance, and as you mentioned, all it can take is a hug to make even the most difficult moments disappear briefly. This is a powerful image.

Thank you once again for your feedback. If you wish to talk or reach out to us, please feel free to speak to our team when you are visiting or call us on 0141 952 1141. The Hospice email address is office@smh.org.uk if you wish to write to us. Further information about our Hospice can be found on our website www.smh.org.uk.

Best wishes to you and your family,

Adrian
