I recently attended the Surgical Short Stay Unit in order to have a Caudal Epidural.
This is the first surgical procedure that I have had done for many years and, although it is a fairly straightforward procedure, I was very anxious about it.
My experience at the Short Stay Unit was fantastic. From the moment I arrived I felt cared for. This was a real team effort, so I don't single out any one person. Every member of staff that I encountered was pleasant, caring and professional. From the most senior consultant right the way through to the catering staff and the person responsible for keeping the unit immaculately clean, they all came over as being committed and, yes, happy in their work.
During my waiting time I could overhear moments of laughter and fun banter between staff as well. I can't emphasise how much those simple things make you feel so much more comfortable and relaxed. Every part of the process was treated with care and focussed on ensuring that I was well informed and comfortable with everything that was happening. The staff really did run the place in all the the best ways.
Thank you to The Short Stay Surgical Unit. Thank you for renewing my faith in what is the best of being British. I am so proud of our NHS and if anyone wants to truly understand what it means to be British, then please open your eyes. I feel proud of the NHS and proud that I live in a country that is so brilliantly diverse.
