"Great staff, but long waiting lists"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Asthma and Allergy Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My son took an anaphylaxis reaction to peanuts when he was 2 years old which he needed to carry epipens. It took 7 Years on the urgent waiting list to be seen by the Peadiatric Allergy Services in the Ulster Hospital to confirm diagnosis and for the Allergy testing.

During this test he was further diagnosed with Asthma and multiple other allergies. We did not know he had Asthma/multiple allergies. Since he has been put on treatment he is thriving and not missing as much school as before due to his chest. If only we knew he had this years before he would have been on the correct treatment.

The staff at the Allergy clinic from the consultant, nurses and to HCAs were absolutely fantastic and so caring.

I am now worried as my younger son is suffering with allergies with unknown causes has been referred to the Allergy team but the thought of him suffering for 7 years to be seen is terrible.

The staff are so nice, however a child having to wait this long is disgraceful.
