I recently attended the Orthopaedic Theatre Nurse Specialist (OTNS) service for carpal tunnel release surgery, and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful for the outstanding care I received. The entire team was absolutely incredible — like a perfectly coordinated, well-oiled machine. From Margaret in the pre-op area to Ryan the nurse specialist, along with the wonderful theatre nurses whose names I sadly can’t remember, every single person was brilliant.
I arrived feeling anxious and nervous, but their kindness, warmth, and genuine care put me at ease almost immediately. Everything was explained clearly and thoroughly, which made me feel informed, reassured, and completely safe in their hands. Their professionalism and expertise were obvious in every step of the process.
The whole experience was organised, efficient, and delivered with such compassion. I left with detailed written post-operative information and felt confident heading home, thanks to their thoughtful guidance.
What truly made the day exceptional was the team’s kindness and sense of humour — it made all the difference. Nurse-led services are far from being a cheaper alternative; they are an incredible asset to the health service. These highly skilled, dedicated, and deeply caring nurses place patients at the very heart of what they do, and I’m so thankful for the exceptional care I received.
