Recently I attended the ENT at the Newlyn Unit RCHT to remove an adenoma from my parathyroid.
I got there first thing and was welcomed by friendly, cheerful reception staff & after a short wait taken into the unit for clerking & admission. Again the nurses in there were friendly, cheerful & made you feel at ease even though they were quite busy.
The anaesthetist who came to see me before the operation was lovely. Cheery, relaxing & she fully informed me of what was going to happen.
Later the consultant, Mr Reddy, saw me before the operation & went through everything in a very calming informative way, putting me at ease.
First on the list was a result considering I had come in a last minute cancellation.
The anaesthetic team, led by Dr Mark were hilarious & made the whole process almost enjoyable. They couldn’t have been better or more caring.
I woke up in the recovery room to a very kind & caring nurse whilst I came round as she checked on me. We had quite a long chat and then eventually it was back to the chair in the part of the unit I had started at, to be greeted by the same caring & considerate staff.
I had to wait quite a long time before I could be discharged, but regular observations & just popping in to check on me & see if I needed anything made the whole thing go by quite quickly. The buttered toast was great!
Again a visit by the surgeon before I left & a good explanation of what he’d done & what would happen next left me feeling confident in my treatment.
You hear so many horror stories about NHS treatment, but my experience was nothing short of wonderful!
All the staff from the start to the finish should be commended on their professionalism, compassion, helpfulness and caring.
Utter credit to the NHS
"Great care by the team"
