"The Health Service at its Best"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Radiology

(as the patient),

I woke up at 06:00 with my hands shaking uncontrollably and my legs feeling very weak. This continued for over 2 hours and was getting worse.

I phoned Portland Park Medical Centre in Hamilton and Dr Pacitti made a home visit. He arrived at my home about 10:30 and by this stage I had brain fog and was struggling to speak.

He then referred me to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride. I want to express my sincere thanks to all the staff who cared for me there and also to Doctor Pacitti from Portland Park Medical Centre. I was deeply moved by the compassion and professional care I received at each stage of my care journey.

When I arrived in Hairmyres Hospital I am indebted to a whole range of people. The receptionist who quickly spotted I needed a chair. The porters, the specialists, who took an X ray and CT scan. I only have the names of a few of the nurses - Kimberley, Laura and Emily. To any I have missed - many thanks.

Finally, the consultant Doctor Kathleen, who patiently and compassionately persevered in trying to get to the root of my health problem.

In the end I was given excellent advice about what was happening and appropriate strategies for the future. Fortunately, I was able to go home.

To all of you who helped me in any way - many thanks. I experienced the health service at its very best.
