"What an amazing initiative!"

About: Royal Jubilee Maternity services / Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service

(as a service user),

I have just had my fourth child and for the first time was under the care of the Continuity Midwife team in the Mater Hospital, Belfast. Out of all my pregnancies, I had never felt more informed, prepared and reassured than this one. My dedicated midwife, Niamh, was always on-hand for any questions I had, to help allay any fears, or to provide any further information if I had additional queries after my consultant visits. It was such a lovely feeling to have the same familiar face rather than a new midwife each time, answering the same questions about my previous births etc. I think every expectant mother should have the opportunity to have this level of care as it was invaluable to have someone at the end of the phone or text, and I really looked forward to our appointments! While Niamh was not on shift during my labour, another member of the COMC team was working and kept Niamh up to date. It was so lovely that that very same team is the team to come out for the first 10 days when you are at your most vulnerable and you value talking to someone you know. What an amazing initiative!
