"My recent stay"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Discharge lounge Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29)

(as the patient),

The team in Ward 24 are absolutely brilliant. Even under pressure when they were short staffed one of the nights they were kind and caring.  I was in for 8 days and everyone during that week was professional and I cannot thank them enough.

Re Food here - Interesting that the advice given prior to my operation regarding what I should and shouldn’t eat pre and post surgery was completely  contradicted by the food provided by the catering team and the volunteer trolley selling on the ward . Some joined up thinking wouldn’t go amiss..

The saddest part for me was in the Discharge Lounge where some elderly patients waiting for ambulance and transfer home were sitting in the cold with just NHS gowns on - I cannot believe that the wards discharge  them on a wheelchair with hardly any clothes on and not even a warm dressing gown.  Is there a charity for supplying dressing gowns to the hospital discharge team ?

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We’re delighted to hear that the team in Ward 24 provided such excellent care during your stay. It’s reassuring to know that even under pressure, their kindness and professionalism made a positive difference for you. I’ll make sure your comments are passed on to the team – they will truly appreciate this recognition.

Regarding your concerns: Food and dietary advice: You’ve highlighted an important point about consistency between pre/post-operative dietary guidance and what’s offered by catering and the volunteer trolley. I’ll share this with both the clinical and catering teams to review and improve alignment.

Discharge Lounge experience: We’re very sorry to hear about patients feeling cold while waiting for transport. This is not the standard we aim for. Your suggestion about dressing gowns is thoughtful – we’ll explore whether opportunities to provide additional comfort items for patients during discharge.

Your feedback helps us identify where we can do better, and we appreciate your honesty. If you’d like us to follow up with you directly, please let us know.
