I had a shocking experience at the out of hours service at the New Victoria hospital in Glasgow.
Phoned 111 around 7pm as my son had ongoing health concerns. We were referred to out of hours service and provided with an appointment at 1040pm.
When we arrived and checked in we were advised there was an unusually long wait to be seen but to take a seat. We were seen within 10 minutes by a lovely nurse who reassured us and checked him over. She also warned us of the long wait to be seen by a doctor and she seemed confused by it as it was quiet.
When it got to midnight , we noticed the 2 doctors had walked by us and left their shift. We spoke to the clinical support staff behind the desk, again they were lovely but advised there had been an emergency and apologised on behalf of the wait. They checked in on the new doctors at the changeover of the shift and mentioned they were just logging in and shouldn't be long, another half an hour passed and we were next to be seen.
Unfortunately, in the time we waited only 1 person was in a room being attended to and it didn't look like they were dealing with an emergency as the nurse popped her head in to the doctor in the other room to remind them about a patient. We seen 2 patients leave who were waiting before us, one of whom had a sick child. We got seen after the shift change which I find extremely coincidental. Its caused unnecessary stress and no doubt to others.
