"Precious time was wasted"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Attended A&E with suspected TIA/Stroke. Triaged quickly, bloods sent to lab but then waited 7 hours to see a Doctor and another 2:5 hrs for ct scan. Had this been a stroke precious time was wasted!! Should have had scan so that if I needed treatment to disperse clot I would have been within the optimum time.

I was eventually diagnosed as suspected TIA but was not given DAPT loading treatment in ED. I was sent home still at risk of a further TIA or stroke. Thankfully I was seen at TIA clinic the next day as they had a cancellation and was given DAPT loading dose and commenced on preventative treatment.

There needs to be a better quicker way of getting suspected stroke/TIA patients seen by a doctor before someone has a massive stroke in the waiting room. Also staff need to be educated in the correct and timely management of those presenting with suspected TIA/stroke symptoms and when to give DAPT.
