I was admitted to ward 56 in Glasgow Royal Infirmary after a hysterectomy as a normally healthy person in my early 40's, I found this a hugely daunting process.
I firstly had my procedure with Dr Kent and Dr Didi and they were amazing, they explained the process and were positive smiley and genuinely cared about their patients I felt in safe hands and so relieved to be under their care and attention. After my first consultation with Dr Kent I felt throughly informed and in extremely safe hands I cannot thank her enough for her care and compassion at such a difficult time.
The anaesthetists Jane and Fred performed my spinal and anaesthetic and throughtly explained the processes asked me questions and constantly gave reassurance while always having my wellbeing as priority I felt in safe kind hands with the doctors and the anaesthetist.
My senior theatre nurse Theresa I couldn't praise highly enough she was amazing, at a time I was petrified she was kind held my hand played music to comfort and calm me and always ensured my gown covered me and that I was doing ok. All the theatre staff were kind and caring and made a petrifying experience much easier.
I was transferred to the recovery ward where my recovery nurse was exceptional, the care I received at a vulnerable was out of this world. family as the nurse helped me.call my mum as I know she would have been so anxious until she heard how I was. She accompanied me to the ward where I was admitted to Ward 56.
Ward 56 well what can I say the staff on this ward are true angels that we are blessed to be cared for by. The care I received in this ward was outstanding. As a heavier person I was extremely anxious of how my care amd recovery would be and I should never have been. Every nurse, nursing student, auxiliary nurse, domestic, were amazing everyone went above and beyond to make sure you were pain free and comfortable.
There was a student Carla who was so kind caring and helpful that nothing was too much to ask of her. There was a nurse Amanda that helped to shower me and if I am honest I was dreading anyone having to help with my personal care, Amanda was amazing she helped me chatted through the best way for me to move, get out of bed, reassured me. and helped me wash and dress whilst keeping me safe she truly was fantastic. Every nurse that did pressure sore checks did these whilst keeping your modesty as much as possible.
Heather a nurse changed my dressings and performed most of my bladder scans and she was fantastic always ensuring I was ok throughly clean and cared for.
The nightshift staff were always on hand if I needed them.and there was not a single time wher I felt I needed anything more from the care I was given.
The doctor who did the rounds at the weekend were lovely and ensured I was painfree and recovering well.
The ward was spotless with cleaning continuing throughout the day, beds were changed every day and if anything happened throughout the day such as bleeding they would be changed again right away. There was 5 patients in my room and all of the ladies comments on how amazing this ward amd the staff were.
Although I have been discharged I was given the ward number incase I have any worries about my wound or recovery and feel I have full support whilst at home recovering
I genuinely cannot praise the staff in ward 56 or the doctors enough, I want to thank them for helping me so much on what was the toughest 4 days I have had and I will forever be so grateful for all of them.
