"Let down by the service"

About: Fife Community Services / Addiction Services NHS Fife

(as a relative),

I write this review broken hearted.

My loved one eventually managed to get an appointment with addiction services at Cameron Hospital.

I feel that his caseworker was unreliable, unhelpful and didn’t exercise the duty of care responsibility the NHS are supposed to practice.

They failed to escalate serious health problems which were visibly recognisable, and cause for concern in someone with an alcohol addiction/withdrawal.

Sadly, our loved one was hospitalised, (not through anything alcohol related), but consequences of his addiction problems escalated his condition, and sadly his demise.

I believe that if his caseworker had acted on his symptoms and attended home visits they arranged, it might have gave us a few extra days/weeks/months with him.

I feel he was let down by a service that should have been provided to him.

I appreciate that working with addicts needs a special type of person, but I think the service might benefit from committed, reliable staff who actually work towards, and exercise, the guidelines of such a much needed service.
