"Booking scans - met with confrontation"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Radiology

(as a carer),

I was made to feel pressured into booking appointments I had no knowledge of or rational for appointment.

Your Dr has requested you must have a scan!

Well if you don't want it that's fine, I'll let your Dr know! (Felt like a threat)

You will have to ask your Dr what it is for, now can you make 8am?

Can you hold a moment? (And while I spoke to my partner, we both heard the voice say Nightmare!)

We can't do that day, nor can we do 8am as that is too early for us.

Well it says here it has to be done by the 21st!

We can do the 21st in the afternoon.

No it has to be before the 21st.

But that's not possible for us, sorry.

I've got 3pm on the 21st!

Great, we'll take it.

We felt the attitude was awful, there was no consideration around anxiety, stress, work commitments, distance or travel arrangements, there were no questions about being able to attend independently or if you needed support. When you haven't been advised that you even need a scan, its very difficult to know how much of a priority you need to make it.

On another occasion, I received a call looking to organise an urgent MRI.

Hi Radiology here, looking to book you in for your Urgent MRI scan that you will be aware of.

No sorry I'm not aware of this but if it's been requested, ok.

I'ts for the large unknown mass they found in your ultrasound 😲

Really why would you say that to anyone over the phone?

My husband has PTSD, anxiety and depression, he also has a dependency for alcohol, so morning tremors take a while to settle and he needs support to attend these appointments. He has struggled with the attitude of the booking service when he rejects early morning slots and feels he shouldn't have to explain himself, but is met with confrontation, so he has hung up or rejected the appointment just to end the stress of the phone call.
