"I am at a complete loss"

About: Mater Hospital / Accident & Emergency Outpatients Services / Gynaecology Outpatients Royal Victoria Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I’m in my early 20s and was  recently diagnosed with endometriosis. I had been referred as a teenager, and only seen last march.

I was wheeled into A&E at the Mater a few months prior to the surgery in a wheelchair screaming in pain after I had passed out from the pain. I was sent to the Royal where I was told I needed to go back to the Mater and was then discharged under dysmenorrhea (painful periods).

They operated later and found endometriosis on my uterine sacral ligament. I’ve been in pain ever since the surgery, haven’t had a period, I’m incontinent most days at this age and cry every time I have a bowel movement. I’ve also never felt fatigue like this in my life, walking upstairs feels like I’m climbing a mountain. My GP doesn’t know how to help.

I was referred to rapid access gynae at the royal but when they ring me and tell me to come over they have my referral I go over and get triaged, sit for 6-7 hours and no one from gynae ever comes to see me.

My experience of surgery as a whole was overall shocking. I arrived at 7.30 am on the morning of my procedure and woke up from my procedure under general anaesthetic at 12pm. I was in my house shortly after 2pm.

I was sent home with no pain medication after being given fentanyl and codeine for pain on the recovery ward. When I arrived home I received a phone call stating they had forgotten to check my incisions and my mum had to do so to make sure there was no active bleeding. I was also told my stitches would resolved but I found myself at the GP 3 weeks later getting them cut out. I wasn’t given a discharge letter and had to go through encompass account to read it, where the surgeon has left 2 contradictory findings and no doctor can confirm what was done during the procedure.

I am at a complete loss
