"Amazing, caring and helpful staff"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Clinical Genetics North Devon District Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I recently had genetic testing following my mums diagnosis of the brca2 gene, a special mention to Harriet genetic counselor who explained everything, answered my questions & helped me with decisions following my positive test and referred me to the OBS and gynae team.

I had surgery yesterday to remove my ovaries & fallopian tubes, every member of staff were amazing, helpful and caring. Special mention to the anaesthetist. didn't get his name but he was so jolly & music blasting as he prepped me for surgery, really put me at ease especially never having anaesthetic before also thank you to Annabel and her team carrying out the surgery , again explaining everything to me after. The nurses and staff on the ward couldn't have been more helpful, looked after me extremely well, really appreciated the tea, toast and biscuits.

Dear Brca2

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I am pleased to hear about the help and support you have had across the teams, dealing with the challenge of a positive genetic result and the decisions to manage your risk. As Harriet's line manager I will share your feedback with her.

With best wishes for your ongoing recovery, it sounds like you are in good hands
