"Poor experience with lifts and car parking"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended RVH for an eye appointment with my child. There was only 1 lift working in outpatients department. I also had my baby in a pram so stairs weren't an option.  We managed to get up to the 8th floor after waiting about 10 minutes on a space in the lift. When I was waiting to go into the dept I saw a gentleman around 80 years old coming out of the stairway and he looked like he was about to collapse after taking the stairs. When we were finished the appt, every time the lift door opened, it was too full to accommodate the pram, so my only option was to go down the stairs. A kind gentleman helped me from the 7th floor down to level 2. In the mean time my husband was still in a queue to park the car by the time our one hour appt was over. The whole experience was very poor and despite getting good medical care when at our appt, we came away with a negative experience based on the disastrous parking situation and the lifts.

Dear Nursenicky,

We are genuinely sorry to hear about the difficulties you encountered with the lifts and parking facilities during your recent visit to the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH). While we are glad you received good medical care, we completely understand how frustrating and stressful these challenges can be for patients and their families.
Your feedback is extremely helpful as we work to improve our services. The specific issues you highlighted—the broken lift and the access challenges with the pram and the elderly gentleman—will be shared with our estates colleagues for their urgent attention and action.

We acknowledge that the parking situation for our patients and their families continues to be a challenge across the RVH site. Please be assured that this is a priority, and discussions and plans are currently in place to help address this situation, with a view to implementing changes in January next year.

Kindest regards, Linda Hamilton,

Service Manager, Regional Children's Eye Service
