"Colposcopy appointment process"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Gynaecology Clinic

(as the patient),

I visited for a colposcopy in November 2024 and was advised the Dr wanted to see me in 6 months time for a review due to historic issues. A few weeks later I received a letter confirming an appointment for July 2025.

In June 2025, I received a letter saying my appointment had to be cancelled and rescheduled to January 2026, over 1 year after my first appointment.

I have since visited my GP for the ongoing issues and they put in an urgent referral in August. On top of this, my smear results have resulted in another referral.

I tried to call to find out if my January appointment could be brought forward and if all 3 issues would be dealt with in 1 appointment. Nobody I spoke to was helpful and the advice I received was - it depends if they have time on the day.

I've now received another letter saying my January 2026 appointment has been cancelled and rescheduled to November 2025 - thankfully bringing it forward. Still nobody can confirm if every issue will be dealt with on the day, and it's unclear if the appointment being brought forward is the result of my urgent referral.

I have had similar issues with the dept over the years. The staff in the department are always lovely and I have no complaints about the doctors and nurses I've seen, but the booking system and lack of concern when dealing with admin staff is incredibly frustrating and upsetting when you are dealing with worries about such an intimate health situation.

Dear LJ35E,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am very sorry to hear about the repeated cancellations and the difficulties you have faced trying to get clarity around your appointments. I fully appreciate how worrying and upsetting this must be, especially when dealing with intimate health concerns and multiple referrals.

It is unacceptable that your follow-up has been pushed back so many times and that you were left unsure whether all of your issues would be addressed in a single appointment. I am also very sorry that you did not feel supported when you contacted the service for guidance — you should always feel listened to, reassured, and given clear information.

While I am pleased to hear that your appointment has now been brought forward, I understand that this does not undo the stress and uncertainty you have experienced. Your care and peace of mind are important, and I would like to look into this situation in more detail to ensure you receive the appropriate support and timely review.

If you feel comfortable, please contact me directly so I can follow this up for you:

Thank you again for raising your concerns, and please accept my sincere apologies for the frustration and anxiety this has caused.

Kind regards,

Nikki
