"Cancelled appointments"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Gynaecology Clinic

(as the patient),

This has been constant over the last year - I have had various abnormal and insufficient smear results following two LETZ treatments in 2020 meaning I've had to attend gynaecology a few times, being told I need to come back for 6 monthly check ups.

My care at each appointment has been fine, but my appointments are constantly cancelled, one of them being cancelled at 4.30pm the day before a 9am appointment. I was eventually given another appointment (6 months after my original 6 month review date) but have just received another cancellation letter for that appointment, meaning my 6 month check will take place after at least 12 months.

I work for the NHS myself so I understand pressures but honestly it's really difficult to keep just accepting cancellations without worrying and there's never any acknowledgement of this. One time I expressed my stress at having to wait and received a patronising response. Just really fed up, I dread every letter I receive from you.

Dear Taurus58,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am very sorry to hear about the repeated cancellations you have faced and the understandable stress and frustration this has caused you. Your follow-up care is important, and I appreciate how difficult it must be to feel uncertain about the timing of your appointments, especially given your medical history and the need for regular review.

I am also sorry that on one occasion you felt the response you received was patronising. This is not the standard of communication we want for our patients, and I apologise that you were left feeling dismissed at a time when you were already anxious.

I would really like to look into this further and support you with getting the follow-up you need. If you feel comfortable, please contact me directly so we can discuss this in more detail and try to resolve the issues you’ve experienced.

You can reach me at: Nikki.Harvey@nhs.scot

Thank you again for raising your concerns, and please accept my sincere apologies for the distress this has caused.

Kind regards,

Nikki
