After I had my daughter I began to struggle with my mental health very badly, I had depression, anxiety, social anxiety and an eating disorder due to having HG during my pregnancy. I couldn't bond with my baby let alone partake in activities with her. I began working with the perinatal team and immediately got help for everything.
I did a COS course which helped me learn all about my daughter and why she acts the way she does and what she needed from me. I was given a social support worker and we went on days out to playgroups and even a trip to the zoo which was so out of my comfort zone but I realised I could do all of these things.
I was prescribed antidepressants to aid my mental health and I have now been released from their care. It was such a bittersweet feeling although I will miss everyone that worked with and helped me, I am so proud of how far I've come and truly feel like myself again. I'm also so glad to know where I can get help if I need it in the future and instead of feeling fear of having my next baby, I'm so excited for this new chapter and I am not scared of my mental health anymore.
