Over the last 6 months I have undergone investigation and treatment for a form of lymphoma by the Haematology oncology team. This has involved: out-patient investigations, haematology ward admission for 10 days, oncology outpatient clinics, blood monitoring and drug treatment as a day patient in the oncology unit.
My care has been excellent from all the healthcare professionals I have dealt with.
Staff on both the ward (A12) and the oncology unit have treated me with respect and as an individual. If there is an issue which needed clarification or appointments being sorted they are happy to do so.
After any result or investigation the consultant clinicians have given me clear management plans based on best available evidence and an honest and pragmatic discussion of different options with myself.
Haematology Clinical nurse specialists and ANPs are easily accessible for advice and have high skill levels. The nursing staff in the oncology day ward are also highly skilled at delivering the ‘chemotherapy’ and despite the busyness of the ward ensuring safe care, treating you as an individual and ensuring follow up at appropriate intervals.
The overall team culture of the department is very positive. I have been delighted to be cared for by dedicated individuals who together demonstrate how an effective healthcare team can perform in the efficient and safe delivery of patient centred care.
