"New doorsteps and railings"

About: Allied Health Professionals (Occupational Therapy, Physio, Dietetics, Speech & Language, Enhanced Intermediate Care) / Community Occupational Therapy

(as a service user),

I have MS and was struggling to get out into my garden because the backdoor steps were too deep.

2 months ago, following a conversation some months previously with OT at Douglas Grant Centre, new steps and 2 handrails were fitted by 2 very efficient and pleasant men from ACatch.

I can't tell you how much the new steps have changed my life!  Not only can I walk much more easily into my garden but I can carry out my laundry without fear of losing my balance.  And they look fabulous!

Dear Steps 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I am so glad to hear that your new steps and handrails are helping you to be more independent around your home. It is wonderful to hear how small changes around the home can have a big impact in promoting safety and independence when carrying out day to day tasks.

I will pass on your feedback to our contractor A-Catch who will be delighted to hear of your positive experience.

Yours sincerely

Beth Griffin

Hi Beth,

I forgot to mention that they customized the steps for me. I explained that I needed the steps to have less height for the times when my back is not good, so that I can hold on to the railings and when I step down it doesn't pull on my back. They also fitted tubular handrails which are much easier and more comfortable to use than the flat iron handrails I had previously.
