"Superb care received"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / West of Scotland Major Trauma Ward (ward 1c)

(as a relative),

My nephew has spent the last few months being cared for in the major trauma ward (1C) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow after sustaining multiple serious injuries in a fall. Cared for are the operative words - he wasn’t just looked after, it was plain to see that staff really did care about him and were so invested in how he was progressing.

Every single member of staff involved in his journey were absolutely amazing not just in his treatment but in that of the whole family- getting to know us, keeping us updated, encouraging us to get involved in his care where appropriate, advising on safe visiting patterns, even providing a space so he could celebrate a family birthday - small things that meant so much.

Special recognition must be given to the  members of the hyperacute rehabilitation team involved who went above and beyond in seeing him as an individual, for helping us consider what would be most important to him in his recovery at this point, helping us  set realistic goals  for him and most importantly in working hard to support him to smash those goals.

He has achieved so much more in the care of the team in Ward 1C than we ever thought possible and for that we are eternally grateful. We hope one day he will be able to come back to the ward independently to let everyone see what an amazing difference they have made to his life and future. Thankyou from a very grateful auntie.

Dear Clarabelle1101,

Thank you so much for sharing such heartfelt feedback. It truly means a great deal to hear how the team on Ward 1C and the hyperacute rehabilitation team have made such a positive impact during what must have been an incredibly difficult time for your nephew and your family.

We are so proud that the care provided went beyond treatment and embraced compassion, communication, and those thoughtful touches that make a real difference. Your words about staff being invested in his progress and supporting the family highlight the values we strive to uphold every day.

Special thanks for recognising the rehabilitation team’s efforts in setting meaningful goals and empowering your nephew to achieve more than expected. Stories like this remind us why we do what we do.

Please know that your gratitude will be shared with everyone involved—they will be delighted to hear how much their dedication has meant to you. We wish your nephew continued strength and success in his recovery!

Best wishes,

Debbie Macintyre
