"I feel very let down by the surgery"

About: The Lionwood Medical Practice

(as the patient),

I went to my doctors surgery to ask to speak to a senior member of staff. I was told the new policy is that they don’t come down to speak to anyone which I don’t understand at all.

Eventually after me getting quite upset, a senior member of staff invited me to their office. I explained my situation and was told they would speak to a doctor and get back to me.

Someone called me that morning to explain I had to do physio first and then there’s a 33-week wait for a steroid injection. Or to go private. They have someone at the surgery who does private appointments and could get me in in 3 days' time at £150.

The back story to this is that last June my right shoulder stopped working, I couldn’t move it in any way. I went back and forward to the surgery, each time being told it was around a two-week wait to see or speak to anyone, I was given painkillers, then told to do physio, was told by the physio there was no point in seeing them as I can’t move. I paid for a private MRI, I then eventually got a steroid injection after around 6 weeks of going back and forward to the doctors which allowed my shoulder to move again.

This has since happened again recently. So I called the doctors, but was told they would put me down for a routine appointment. That is when I then went in to try and speak to someone to explain that I just needed a steroid injection. I’m self-employed with 3 young children, so I currently can’t work and do everything I feel I need to for my children, which is very upsetting.

I feel very let down by the surgery, I’m not someone who goes often and will only go if I am really in need. I’ve since moved surgeries and been able to get an appointment.
