"Occupational Therapist input with home adaptations"

About: Bellshill Locality / Integrated Rehabilitation Team

(as a relative),

Caroline, OT with the Bellshill Rehabilitation Team, visited my mum’s home to assess what was needed for my mum to live at home safely. Over the next year, Caroline facilitated everything required for my mum to safely shower/ toilet, an essential stairlift, and an accessible, comfortable safe bed. Caroline was exceptional - she is very professional, warm, encouraging and friendly in equal measure.

My mum was very nervous about all the changes, but Caroline’s approach just made it as easy and calm as possible. She was very knowledgeable and efficient, which inspired confidence from our whole family in the process. Sometimes my mum wasn’t feeling great and not up to taking things forward with visits, but Caroline was always patient, never rushed things and reacted sensitively with kindness.

Caroline had to try various options for things that might work specifically for mum and even organised for external organisations to visit my mum to demonstrate various solutions. She put so much effort into tailoring an ideal outcome that would stand the test of time and really suit mum over a  sustainable period of time.

She was totally respectful towards my mum and her home and that really made her feel so much better about herself and the difficult changes that were happening.

We would like to express our deepest thanks to Caroline for all her hard work and her outstanding approach and dedication. We appreciate and respect her very much.

These kind of changes really are so difficult for people to adapt to, especially if they have lived in same house all their family life and been very independent. It was  a frightening prospect for my mum to face perhaps not managing at home.  Caroline’s input to making that happen so successfully can’t be underestimated it’s hard to imagine anything more important.

Thank you.
