"I didn't feel like I was in good hands"

About: Western General Hospital / Colorectal

(as the patient),

I was there feeling horrible pain and one of the surgeons decided that I had to spend the night, so I was sent to a ward.

The doctor who visited me in the morning had a very uncompassionate, dry and  let's- finish-this-soon attitude. I was in utter pain, and after having been hospitalised, I thought they would do something for me. But this doctor (who wasn't the one who saw me the previous night and decided to hospitalise me) seemed completely uninterested, and just decided to send me back home in the same conditions that I entered the previous night.

There were some kind nurses, and the catering lady was outstanding; but I also felt that there was a bit of discoordination and lack of communication.

I felt very, very vulnerable, and didn't feel like I was in good hands, in general terms.

I had to go back home and start my own investigation about how to deal with my pain. I got more help from friends' advice than from the hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, which I will ensure is shared with the team. I'm sorry to hear that there was aspects of your care you were unhappy with. I appreciate how vulnerable people can feel when in hospital, which is not helped when you feel your concerns are not being listened to. I hope you continue to make a good recovery. If there is anything myself or any of the team can do to help, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
