"Contraception Information not clearly explained"

About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as the patient),

I came to the clinic to get more information around contraceptive options, as my current one isn’t working for me. And felt judged, commented on and pushed specially down the route of a coil rather than explaining the options I have. I thought some aspects of this appointment were very unprofessional.

Hi Waltzpt49

Thank you for getting in touch and for sharing your experience with us. We’re very sorry to hear that your recent appointment left you feeling judged and that you did not receive the information and support you were looking for regarding contraceptive options. This is not the standard of care we aim to provide, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know.

Because this feedback system is anonymous, I am not able to identify when you attended and which clinician you saw. I would really like to be able address this and see if we need to provide further training for the member of staff who conducted your consultation.

On this basis, I wonder if you would feel happy to contact me ( in complete confidence ) so that I can investigate this further. If you feel ok about doing this, please can you email me at: rduh.shexeteradmin@nhs.net, with your name and Date of Birth so that I can check your notes and see why this may have occurred. I will not directly share your story, but I can ascertain if there are any training issues identified. I will ensure this is managed sensitively so our patients continue to receive the highest standards of care.

Best Wishes

Elizabeth Roddy

Senior Nurse / Contraception Lead.
