"Postnatal Care and Cleanliness Concerns"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

After having a wonderful experience in pre natal and delivery with an excellent surgical team, I was handed over to the post natal Care team after an emergency c section and had a terrible experience.

1. Cleaners came onto the ward late, switched all lights on, moaned loudly about a colleague and admitted to not cleaning the beds for over a week as they were cleaning and replenishing a ward section. They then left, leaving all lights on and waking up sleeping babies and new mums between 11 30PM and midnight - they did not seem to care one bit. Infact, they seemed more concerned about their colleague politics than anyone else.

2. Some of the midwives were so rude, like you were a burden to them. The majority were pleasant but one actually said to me after pressing the buzzer - what do you need now? And huffed. I was asking for morphine for pain and barely pressed it before.

3. My bed wasn't changed after asking twice, it had blood on it.

4. I was struggling with recovery and it felt like they wanted to send me away to suffer. Waited ages for medication to come also.

5. The ward wasn't clean, blood on the floor, etc. Didn't see the toilets being cleaned whilst I was there over 48 hours sharing with others.

6. The buzzers seemed to be going off all day and night but you'd see everyone gathered having a chat.. what if someone really needed help urgently?

7. One day in reception there appeared to be some NHS officials in the main lobby... surrounding the map of the hospital and blocking patients from seeing it.

8. The floor was so slippy, multiple people nearly slipped. No signs or mats in place.
