We are caring for my father at home with the help of the district and community team. We have found that this would not be possible without Maria the advanced nurse practitioner in district nursing.
Maria is able to write prescriptions and adjust medication on the same day, this saves us waiting days on a response from our GP as they seem over run and understaffed. Maria is able to link in with all other practitioners involved in my father’s care. This has helped prevent distress for us and unnecessary suffering for my father.
Maria had taken some holidays recently and it really drove home how much we would not be able to care for my father without her. We live in a rural area and have found that resources are limited and stretched. Maria has been able to support us in more ways than we can imagine and fill the gaps left behind from being so rural.
This service would be improved if there were more staff at the weekends.
