"Parkinson's Care"

About: South Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership

(as a relative),

I have just taken a call from my mum talking of ending her life. Why? Because of the lack of support from Ayrshire and Arran Health board on Parkinson's. In our experience, the call line in the Biggart Hospital is a joke. She has called countless times and left a message asking for help. The message advises to leave a message and get a call back in 5 days!!!! This is bad enough but the call doesn't come at all. She feels there is no point as no one can help her. She has been hospitalized where I sat with her for ten hours and am yet to see a doctor. She was sobbing and was left sitting in a chair with no attention. She has been sleep deprived for over a month and not even given anything to help with the sleep deprivation.

Dear Tree surgeon,

My name is Karen Wilson and I am the Clinical Nurse Manager for the Biggart Hospital. I believe the Complaints Department at NHS Ayrshire and Arran have investigated and provided yourself and your mum with a response. I am aware that your mum received the advice she was seeking from the National Parkinson Team. We apologise for the delay in response to your call and the team will endeavor to ensure that this does not happen again. The Parkinson Team is a small team serving the whole of NHS Ayrshire and Arran both patients at home and in hospital and they do try their best but we do not always get it right.

I hope the advice your mum got has helped.

Best wishes

Karen
