"Pregnancy after loss"

About: Maternity care / Labour suite maternity Maternity care / Maternity care (Ward 31) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

My second daughter was born in April 2024 at Royal Alexandra, Paisley.

The care I received was remarkable compared to the care I received for my first daughter in 2022.

I chose to transfer hospital following 3 losses and a full term birth at another hospital. This was the best decision I made.

From day one, the care I received was excellent. My first scan, the sonographer handled my anxiety and emotions extremely well. She made me feel like it was ok to be so concerned. She took time with me and understood I did not want to chat and needed support. Not only did she show such compassion and empathy, what struck me, was how shocked I was. How could it be that after having so many scans that this one could make me feel so cared for when no one else had. My scan took no longer than any others but yet the bedside manner I received was remarkable. I wrote a card straight after to thank her, I am only so sorry that I cannot remember her name. I believe she should most definitely carry out training to other sonographers!

I was then consultant led by Roseanna. Roseanna was absolutely incredible. I never ever thought I would be able to speak about anything regards maternity services in a positive way. Roseanna from the get go understood why and what was making me so anxious. She immediately. offered me additional appointments, and most importantly, consistency.

She understood that being in the waiting room was hard enough let alone having to re tell my history. Roseanna went above and beyond for me, my husband and my daughter. This included carrying out all my scans, checking on me when I was admitted, booking my induction for when she was on call. Every little thing she did, I still think about today.

The midwives were also amazing. They managed my emotions and again understood that it is not an exciting time for all women. It can be terrifying.

The surgical team and anaesthetists. also calmed me so well in surgery. Helped me through panic attacks and brought our girl to safety.

I truly cannot be more grateful to the staff at the RAH. I only wish other hospitals could have the same ethics and empathy.

A wonderful team.
