"Losing my husband and having new perspective on life"

About: St Johns Hospice / St John’s counselling

(as a service user),

I lost my husband after a short illness . It was such a shock to me and my husband that he had aggressive cancer . Roughly six weeks after showing symptoms he passed away .

I was referred by the hospice for counselling because I couldn’t process what was happening let alone him passing away . This was life changing for me .

Sharon was amazing, she listened and we have worked through everything. I don’t know how I would have managed without her support. I was in and out of very dark places . But after my sessions I came out feeling proud of myself and realising I can do this , and just how far I had come .

It’s given me a whole new perspective on life. And more importantly to be in the moment.

I Can not thank Sharon and the staff at the hospice enough for their support and referring me to the services . Plus the care they delivered to my husband for his final days in the hospice .

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us this feedback. First of all I am so sorry to hear that you lost you husband in such shocking circumstances, it sounds like this was an extremely difficult time for you both to process the diagnosis. I am so pleased you were able to access counselling and have such a positive experience that helped you out of such a dark place and process this huge life changing trauma. I understand you will never get over your grief, however, to hear that you felt proud of yourself and find the belief that you could do this feels a really positive step. It sounds like this helped you find your new perspective on life which will be enabling you to navigate your way through your new normal. Once again thank you so much for you lovely feedback, it really does mean a lot to the service as well as Sharon who I will pass this feedback onto.

Take care

Kerry Griffiths
