"Brachytherapy Treatment for Colorectal cancer"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as the patient),

I was referred by my oncologist at Guy's London to Dr Stewart's Brachytherapy team at the Royal Surrey Hospital after receiving Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy at Guy's in Sidcup.

Due to the location of my tumour - the gold standard of surgery first, to remove the tumour, would have meant a permanent colostomy bag. I was keen to avoid this in my 50s.

I am extremely grateful to Dr Stewart and her team, for the treatment I received post Chemo/Radiotherapy. I was very well cared for and looked after. They were friendly, caring, compassionate, patience and of course professional, whilst doing a very challenging and demanding job.

I have immense respect for them, for supporting me and of course many others through a difficult and stressful journey. I have had a positive outcome so far but it has not been an easy road, no cancer journey is.

Although I've not been given the all clear yet, as it's too early to say, the tumour has gone. I am eternally grateful to all the amazing NHS staff for their compassion and diligence. I hope they are able to continue with their brilliant work and supporting many more patients like myself
