"Life Threatening Asthma Attack"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A1 Respiratory Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / First responder paramedic

(as the patient),

I had a series of Life Threatening asthma attacks, the first one being in my home! My wife rang 999 and ambulance arrived in 9 minutes. I had already passed out and wasn’t breathing! The paramedics worked with me in the meantime another ambulance arrived. Also a doctor who lived near by arrived and gave me a shot of adrenaline which I’m told saved my life.

I arrived at the hospital and woke up in Resus Room having be administered a lot of medication! I was lucky to be alive!

I was brought to Ward A1 in Antrim Area Hospital and proceeded to have a further 2 serious asthma attacks in the next 24 hours!

The nurses and the staff were just incredible!  They saved my life again and again!

Everything was so overwhelming but I was made to feel very secure in the knowledge that these amazing people were on hand to look after me!

I am so eternally grateful for everything the staff did for me during my period of critical illness!
