It is a very minor thing but it has become so common it feels too much now, to be spoken to like a naughty child by members of staff.
The arguments in favour of kind and trauma informed services are well worn and I will not repeat but will re-endorse them.
Member of staff who are obstructive, blunt, unkind, which to me would amount to rude, are a significant problem.
My most recent experience, the prompt for this opinion, culminated in an exchange in which I raised my discomfort about the appropriateness of the way I was spoken to in a conversation ultimately was around my confusion over how an emergency prescription may be obtained. These were dismissed out of hand by the staff member and then a senior member of staff, who ignored repeated questions from me, and sought to simply repeat statements themselves. When I attempted to raise my concerns about my experience as highly discomforting, these were dismissed out of hand, which I think is completely inappropriate and raises questions over integrity and patient concern.
My experience is valid full stop. If I have been made up I feel obstructive and offended by NHS staff that is a serious failing. To have a senior member of staff endorse this is significantly concerning. It is such a minor thing to rectify too. I work in the NHS and I know I will never make a patient feel this way, because I will never allow something to become a priority over patient experience as has clearly been done here. That is my job as an NHS staff member.
"My concerns were dismissed"
