"Admission to hospital and then subsequent visits by Hospital at Home team"

About: Integrated Community Services Service Delivery Unit / Hospital at Home (Physical Health) Worcestershire Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Twice in October I was sent to A&E by my GP. Having suffered from Prostate Cancer and heart problems for many years, I was struggling to recover from an urine infection and was suffering from Postural hypotension to the extent that he advised hospital treatment.

At A&E the staff were caring but obviously overwhelmed by the number of patients they had to treat. Waiting was lengthy and uncomfortable on both occasions. Communication was minimal. I was admitted for a week and the same was true in the ward. Staff were lovely but constantly changing and no-one ever knew what would be happening. Apart from blood tests I had a scan.

On discharge from hospital my care was taken over by the Hospital at Home team, who I can't praise enough! They spent time to explain everything, knew my case details thoroughly, communicated clearly and gave me the confidence and support that was invaluable for my recovery. I felt they achieved more in a few days than in the whole week in hospital and I recovered much more quickly under their care. All the nurses provided an excellent service, for which my wife and I were very grateful.

Good afternoon Lazarus

Thank you for your feedback. If you would like to contact me separately on the email of julie.webber6@nhs.net I would be interested in which A&E you attended and also what ward you were on. I am happy with your permission to forward your comments to the relevant ward for their information so discussion and learning can take place.

I look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards

Julie Webber

Lead Nurse for Patient Experience at Worcestershire Acute Trust Hospitals.
