"I felt extremely well cared for"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Just like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to the new treatment centre and all the staff working there.

I was in for a hip replacement,  I admit I was very apprehensive before surgery.

The surgery team were excellent,  very understanding and explained all that was happening.  I had a wee complication but looked after so well.

Moved onto the west wing, room 23. I've stayed in hotels that don't go anywhere near this standard,  it's a credit to the cleaning staff.

First night after the operation, I did not know what to do with myself,  in discomfort and finding it impossible to sleep.  I watched that clock on the wall for hours. During that time the nurses looked after me , telling me what was happening and what the best way to treat it. You lose your dignity in hospital,  but forget that as the nurses have seen it all and very experienced in helping you.

Next day came physio,  my pain topped the chart 10 out of 10. Saying that if I just didn't listen to them I would be in such good shape as I am today.

Still have discomfort from the scarring,  but my hip feels like it did 20 years ago. I am now only using one of my crutches and that's for support and rest. I am totally amazed how quickly I've healed , but trying not to overdo it.

During the rest of my stay, I was so cared for by all the nurses and physio. The kitchen staff were great to, and the food was excellent.  This to me is very important as helps with recovery.

If  I am honest did not want to come home, as I felt extremely well cared for, this by people who were complete strangers only days before.

So again a huge thank you to the whole staff working there,  I will not forget it.
