After visiting my local GP it took approx 10months to get my appointment with the hospital to talk to the consultant, who explained surgical options and risks involved. This allowed me to make an informed decision of the way I wished to proceed. It took a further approx 8 months before I got a phone call offering me an appointment.
I was given a date 2 weeks away and was told information would be sent out. This never happened and I phoned the central switch board and was transferred to my consultant's receptionist who chased this up. I received a phone call within 4 hrs from the surgical unit and was told I needed a preop assessment before my surgery.
A suitable time was arranged at day surgery. Staff were exceptional, professional and friendly. Again everything was explained about the tests and what my surgery and recovery would involve. For me I found the correct amount of humour that matched mine and put me at ease.
On the day of the surgery the ward staff were again exceptional, professional and friendly. Confirming multiple times who I was, what I was getting done, what I would expect and where toilets were and if I needed anything to ask. They constantly checked up on the ward, informing us of expected timings of the operations and possible discharge times so we could arrange pick up.
The various staff of the actual operation visited and explained everything again. The actual operation went well, recovery in the ward and aftercare was excellent. I can not fault any of the staff, I was treated with dignity and respect. I received the care I would have expected from a private health care service (except the waiting times) all the staff I had contact with are a credit to the NHS service and I can not thank them enough for their support and service.
