I recently had knee replacement surgery and was discharged after 3 nights. My first experience of a district nurse was to check and change my dressings, she was from the Duns team and had phoned to give me an approximate arrival time. She was kind and efficient and took a photo of my knee as it was a bit swollen, for the GP . Although not scheduled she suggested another visit as she was concerned. A couple of days later a nurse and a student came from the coldstream team mainly due to my location and local road closures. My wound was not too good, they took a photo for reference and changed the dressing.
From then on the team phoned each morning to check my situation and came along if I was unsure even across the weekend
I have now had my staples removed. I cannot stress how amazing my first ever experience of district nurses was, they were kind, thoughtful and I felt reassured that I could contact the team at any time, especially important as I live alone. I was also impressed that the two teams communicated so well together to rearrange my care following the road closure issue.
Thank you all so much .
