"Worst experience ever had from gastroscopy procedure"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Had concerns I may be allergic to throat spray but they just ignored me and went ahead and sprayed my throat. Spray had no effect, worst experience ever had from this procedure. Ended up with a hiatus hernia as my choking and heaving was ignored, honestly thought I would die, and to round off a terrible experience they didn't even bother to take a biopsy for my Barrett's. Never again.

Dear Distz39

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your recent visit to Pilgrim Endoscopy. We appreciate that whilst retching is common and a natural response to the endoscope touching the back of the throat, gastroscopy can be an anxiety provoking procedure. As a team, we work hard to ensure that our patients are well supported and kept as comfortable as possible, I am therefore deeply sorry to read that your experience was not a more positive one. I can only apologise sincerely for any distress this has caused. I will of course share your feedback with the team for the purposes of shared learning. Should you wish to contact our Patient Liaison and Advice Service (PALS), I would be happy to discuss your concerns further.

Kind regards, Carolann, Endoscopy Matron
